Initially, Spencer suggested that their first-party studios' games would support both Xbox One and Xbox Series X platforms for the "next couple of years",[76] but journalists observed that some of the first-party games introduced in the Xbox Game Showcase in July 2020 omitted mention of the Xbox One, and their websites later updated to omit mention of the Xbox One. While none of these games were believed to be launch titles, they were expected to be released within the window Spencer had previously suggested. This led to Aaron Greenberg, general manager of Xbox Games Marketing, to clarify that these games were being developed for the Xbox Series X first, leaving the choice of adding Xbox One support to their development studios as they went forward.[83]
The Xbox Series X is the first in the next generation of Xbox Consoles. Microsoft reportedly has other models in the works (we expect a slimmed down, digital version at some point down the line) but for now the Series X is the only one confirmed to release next year. The Series X is expected to have excellent backwards compatibility with Xbox One games, and we already know that Wireless Elite controllers will work seamlessly with the new system. Oh, and in case you were worried about fitting that bulky tower in your TV stand, yes, you can lay it on its side.
Our main man Master Chief was confirmed to return in Halo: Infinite. After a story trailer was shown for the game, it was announced as a launch title for Xbox Scarlett during holiday 2020. The game's next big moment in the spotlight will occur at E3 2020, and beta tests are also expected at some point ahead of release.
While we've had the PS5 confirmed (opens in new tab) by Sony, we're yet to see a release window announced, but Microsoft has already stated that Xbox Project Scarlett will be releasing in Holiday 2020 alongside Halo Infinite (opens in new tab) as a launch title, so perhaps the next-gen port of Dying Light 2 could be expected around that time as well.
Other titles confirmed or expected to be in development for next-gen consoles include The Elder Scrolls VI, Starfield and Grand Theft Auto 6, so it seems safe to assume that those will land on Xbox Series X as well. According to TechRadar, Rage 2 developer Avalanche Studios is working on a next-generation title.
For over a year now, rumors pointed to the code name for the next-gen Microsoft games console as "Project Scarlett." As it turns out, those rumors were exactly true. On stage at their E3 presser, Phil Spencer confirmed the code name. It's very likely the system will eventually keep the Xbox moniker in some fashion, but for now, the press, fans, and even Microsoft big wigs are calling it one thing: Scarlett. 2ff7e9595c
